Working with his team at the University of Pennsylvania, PICS affiliated professor Igor Bargatin, Class of 1965 Term Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics, has developed a “nanocardboard.” This nanocardboard is more than 10,000 times stiffer than a solid sheet of aluminum oxide while keeping the same mass, and most impressively, it can recover its shape after repeated bending.

His paper, “Nanocardboard as a Nanoscale Analog of hollow Sandwich Plates,” was published on October 25, 2018 in Nature Communications
