What is a Master’s Thesis and how can I conduct one?

Most students start their thesis in the second year after the foundational coursework is behind them. The first step is to find a topic and a faculty member to act as your thesis advisor, which you must do before the semester begins. You must find your own advisor, SCMP will not assign an advisor to you. You will discuss your thesis plan with your advisor and create a schedule. Most students take the full year to complete their thesis. To do this you would register for SCMP 5970 twice, once in the fall semester and once in the spring. You can do both credits in one semester with the permission of your thesis advisor. Please be sure to read the section on thesis submission in the graduate student handbook. If you decide to complete a thesis, fill out this form and send it to Julia at jnespos@seas.upenn.edu.
